CHESTERFIELD CHAMBER SUPPORTS LANE’S SCHOOL START TIME PROPOSAL
The Chesterfield Chamber supports Dr. James Lane’s proposal to move school start times later. The Chamber’s expectation is that this change will be consistent with positive academic performance and health research correlated to later start times, and that the capital costs and operational expenses will be funded without increasing the budget nor increasing taxes.
Jim Roman, Chairman of the Chesterfield Chamber expresses “Dr. Lane has done his homework on the medical and performance research. Chesterfield County is one of only a few in the Commonwealth with start times as early as they are, and when you look at the setbacks this is a no-brainer. Our Board of Directors was pleased to see a fiscally conservative approach to fixing the issue.”
Danna Markland, President of the Chesterfield Chamber said “If a business operated on a practice that prevented its employees from performing to the best of their ability, a strategic change to overcome the issue would be made. That is what this comes down to. By adopting the proposal, local students—who will ultimately be employees—will be better set up for success.”
