    Team Chesterfield teachers earn National Board Certification  Seven Chesterfield County teachers were recognized Thursday for achieving National Board Certification, one of the most widely recognized honors in the teaching profession. In addition, several of the school division’s current certified teachers renewed their certification. There are 123 National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) now working for Chesterfield  County Public Schools.“National Board Certification is one of the most respected professional certifications available in K-12 education,” School Board Chair Rob Thompson said.   “We applaud this year’s recognized teachers, understanding that a high-quality workforce is the backbone of a strong public school division. These teachers who have invested time  and energy into becoming masters of their craft.”    These are the school division’s newest NBCTs: • Jennifer Askue-Collins, Weaver Elementary  • Brittany Haas, Bon Air Elementary  • McKendry Marano, James River High  • Heather Murfee, Midlothian High  • Allie Redd, Watkins Elementary  • Jennifer Stillman, Tomahawk Creek Middle  • Trupti Yates, Watkins Elementary    Certification lasts five years and then may be renewed for an additional five years. These Chesterfield County teachers renewed their certification this year  and will hold their license for 10 years based on previous certification requirements:     • Meredith Jordan, Providence Middle  • Amber Kuper, Salem Middle    Offered by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, certification is a voluntary professional development opportunity that recognizes accomplished teachers  who meet rigorous standards of performance. The honor, peerreviewed and based on multiple measures, is one of the highest credentials available in the teaching profession.  It typically takes one to three years to complete.     “National Board Certification is gold standard for excellence in teaching within the education profession,” Superintendent Dr. Merv Daugherty said. “These teachers have  invested a tremendous amount of time into mastering their craft, and it shows in the classroom. Our students will be the ultimate beneficiaries of the teachers’ dedication.”    These individuals were recognized along with teachers from Richmond, Henrico, and Hanover at the National Board Certification Pinning Ceremony at VCU's Sonia Vlahcevic  Concert Hall.    — end —

    The Chesterfield Chamber is the only business organization that SLGD is a member. SLGD focuses all of its business volunteerism and business community support with the Chesterfield Chamber. In 2018, SLGD gained 11 new clients from direct referrals from members of the Chesterfield Chamber totaling over $20K in sales. SLGD paid for its chamber membership 33 times over.
