Chesterfield Chamber July Luncheon: Chesterfield County Public Schools Update

Dr. Merv Daugherty joined Chesterfield County Public Schools as its Superintendent of Schools in November 2018.
During his two years with Chesterfield County Public Schools, Dr. Daugherty has worked to strengthen the school division?s curriculum, expand access to online learning opportunities and implement the school division?s strategic plan, Imagine Tomorrow. In addition to the work related to teaching and learning, Dr. Daugherty has continued work to address recommendations within the school division?s Equity Plan, implement additional social emotional learning strategies, and create safe, supportive and nurturing learning environments for all students and staff.
As the chief executive officer of one of the country?s 70 largest school divisions, Dr. Daugherty has strategically worked with local businesses, faith and civic organizations, and local philanthropic foundations to create new and enhance existing partnerships that support approximately 63,000 students. As a result of this work, all Chesterfield County schools are fully accredited by the Virginia Department of Education and every K-12 student will have a Chromebook for anytime, anywhere learning during the 2020-21 school year.
Before joining Team Chesterfield, Dr. Daugherty was Superintendent of Red Clay Consolidated School District in Delaware. The 2015-16 Delaware Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Daugherty led Delaware?s largest and highest-achieving school district. A former central office administrator, principal, teacher and coach, Dr. Daugherty has supported local organizations such as MEGA Mentors and Upward, and has been involved at the national level with College Board and the Large Countywide and Suburban District Consortium.
